Mr. Dewey Scott Mayes, Jr, of Birmingham, Alabama, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday June 6th, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Spivey Mayes, his son, Dewey Scott Mayes III, his parents, Dewey Scott Mayes, Sr. and Ila Mae Critcher Mayes, his sister, Mary Jane Collins Franklin, his brother, J.D. Mayes, and his dear friend Bobbie Peele. He is survived by his daughters, Tina Mayes Vinson and Lisa Mayes Ferris. Also he is survived by his grandchildren, Cory (Laura) Vinson, Abby Vinson, Kelsey (Preston) Davis, Alec Ferris, Misty Mayes, Jason (Kim) Mayes, and his eight great-grandchildren, Mabel Vinson, J.P. Davis, Jane Davis, Morgan (Gary) Hogeland, Christopher Quick, Kinsley Quick, Blake Mayes, and Savanna Mayes. Also survived by his nephew, Marvin Scott (Susan) Mayes, and nieces, Jan Mayes Quarles, and Judy T. Colee and numerous true friends.
He was in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired after 33 years of service, from H. K. Porter/Conner’s Steel Co. as a master machinist. He was a 50 years plus member of the Huffman Mason Lodge, #633. He was a member of Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers for his lifetime love of cars and his participation in Alabama Racing.
He was a loving, amazing, fun, hardworking, patriotic father and a loyal friend. We will miss you Daddy/Granddaddy. Thank you for all you taught us through the years.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 12, 2021 beginning at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed with a funeral service in the Chapel at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Alabama. Mr. Mayes will receive Military Honors and Masonic Burial Rites at the Cemetery.
