Dean Byrd

d. October 2, 2012

Dean Byrd, a loving and faithful husband for 45 years, a wonderful father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. He retired from Mountain Brook High School after 33 years as a Guidance Counselor. He had the honor of being a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir at North Shelby Baptist Church, where music was his delight. He was an amazing man who was generous, loving, and always had a smile for everyone he met. He raised his family in Cahaba Heights where they made their home for over 40 years. Services will be held at North Shelby Baptist Church at 12:30pm Friday October 5, with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be from 11am until 12:30pm Friday at the church. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Jackie Chafin Byrd; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Rebecca Byrd (Alabaster); daughter and son-in-law Joy and Hub Harvey (Birmingham); and granddaughter Courtney Posey (Alabaster); mother Beth Byrd (Dothan); sister Glenna Graverson (Birmingham); sister Janet Woodham (Dothan); brother David Byrd (Scottsdale, AZ); as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Trinity MICU, to Gentiva Hospice and to his many physicians who were instrumental in his care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shelby Baptist Church Music Ministry or the Building Fund (4100 Belcher Drive, Birmingham, AL 35242). Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
