Dale Evans

October 16, 1956 — July 29, 2018

Beverly Dale (DeMedicis) Evans left our world for Heaven on Sunday morning, July 29th. She left this world just as she lived in it with a sweet smile and a peaceful countenance. She was the devoted wife of her husband Rev. Tim Evans for 38 years. Dale was among many things a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted daughter and sister, a hard working nurse, a servant of Christ and His church, and a friend to many. Dale is survived by her husband Tim. She is also survived by her children Kristen Hilsher (Steve), Zach Evans (Amy), and Katie Bieber (Drew). She has 3 grandchildren, Andrew Hilsher, Avery Hilsher, and Jude Bieber. She is also survived by her parents Tommy and Barbara DeMedicis, a brother, Doug DeMedicis (Shelia) and her sister Donna Leonard (Bubba). Survivors also include a number of nieces and nephews and extended family. Dale was born on Oct 16, 1956 in Honolulu, HI. She came to Birmingham with her parents as an infant and graduated from Woodlawn HS in 1975. At Woodlawn she was a part of a spiritual awakening led by the Wales Goebel ministry. She was a cheerleader for Woodlawn at one of the most famous football games in Alabama history. This game featured future Alabama and NFL stars Tony Nathan and Jeff Rutledge, and was recently depicted in the movie “Woodlawn.” After graduation from Woodlawn, Dale spent a year at Southeastern Bible College before transferring to UNA to major in nursing. At UNA she was a ZTA, a Golden Girl, the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, a member of the BSU and involved in a number of other organizations and activities. She met her future husband, Tim, at UNA during their sophomore year. Dale graduated in 1980 with a BS in nursing. If anyone was ever called to be a nurse, it was Dale. She loved serving people and worked for 25 years as a registered nurse. She began her career at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA. She also worked at Coosa Valley Home Health, with the final 10 years of her nursing career spent at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham. One of the great tragedies of Dale’s sickness was the early end to the work she loved and excelled at. Dale and Tim were college sweethearts and married two weeks after their graduation. They moved to Summerville, GA where they lived for 15 years. They then moved to Birmingham in 1995 for Tim to study at Beeson Divinity School. Dale loved the Lord Jesus and served him sacrificially in her work and in her church. Whether it was cooking, cleaning, singing in the choir, or caring for those in need, Dale was always ready to serve. She was the nurse, secretary, and girl Friday on mission trips, at VBS, and at children’s camp. Dale fought a long and courageous battle with early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. She began to suffer symptoms of this dreaded affliction in 2005 forcing her to retire from nursing. While the disease progressed rapidly, she displayed her typical fortitude and never let it define her. She lived joyfully, fought courageously, and served sacrificially until this fatal disease worked its terrible destruction. Her family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, July 31at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. Her family will also receive friends at 10:00am, Wednesday, August 1 at North Clay Baptist Church, 7476 Clayton Rd, Pinson, Al 35126. Her memorial service will begin at 11am on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Hwy 11, Trussville, AL.
