Mr. King passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at his home. Earl was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Birmingham City schools and graduated from Woodlawn High School where he made several lifetime friends. Earl and these friends continued to get together for the rest of his life. After high school, Earl enlisted in the Navy where he honorably served for 3 years. During this time, he married and had three wonderful daughters. After leaving the Navy, Earl was hired at AlaGasCo., where he spent 49 and ½ years and became an accomplished programmer. Earl made more enduring friendships at AlaGasCo–he attended a monthly luncheon with his friends from work for many years after retirement. While attending UAB, he met his wife, Deborah. They celebrated 45 years of marriage. Their son and two daughters are among their greatest accomplishments from their marriage. Earl enjoyed many activities during his lifetime, such as rock climbing, canoeing and most recently, making canes from unique wood. He enjoyed collecting knives and guns. One of his greatest joys was singing in the choir at church. He also sang with the SAM Vocal Band. When the time came, Earl was ready to meet his Lord. One of the last things he said was “I want to go to Heaven”. We’re sure when the Lord called him, he said “I’m available”.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Wright King, his children, Melinda Leigh Burke (Mitchell), Michelle Taylor (Mike), Stephanie Kay (Jeremy), Ian Hanson King, McKenzi Ann King and Clare Hope Jiang King, his grandchildren, Jeremiah Nicholas Kay (Skye), Amber Burke, Zakariah D. Kay (Gabreil), Kristian Page, Corrinne Page and Dianna Burke, his great-grandchildren, Lyla O’Neill, Aurora O’Neill and Oakleigh Kay, his sister, Lisa Roberts (Joe) and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise King, his brother, Johnny King, his sisters, Patsy Cox and Judy Hicks, and his granddaughter, Samantha Katheryn Page.

Active Pallbearers will be: Ian King, Nick Klosowsky, Neal Lacy, Kristian Page, Zakariah Kay and Jeremiah Nicholas Kay.

Randy Womack will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
