Charlie Mathews

Charlie C. Mathews, age 91 of Birmingham, AL passed away on February 24, 2014. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, and a Children's Church Worker for 43 years. He retired from Birmingham Iron Workers Local Union #92 after 37 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945, where he was an Aviation Machinist Mate, 3rd Class. He was the last survivor of seven children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Mathews. He is survived by his wife, Jetta M. Mathews; sons, Keith Mathews (Linda), Philip Mathews (Cheryl), Terry Mathews, and Lynn Mathews; grandchildren, Eryn Carl, Daniel Mathews, Elana Bolling, James Mathews, Emily Mathews, Jacob Mathews, Jeremy Mathews, and Mason Mathews; great grandchildren, Madison Carl, Noah Carl, Savannah Carl, Camden Carl, Ryder Mathews, Emma White, Taylor Mathews, Anderson Mathews, and Emerie Mathews; a host of nieces, nephews, and many other friends. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 5 to 7 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be on Friday at 10:00 AM at Jefferson Memorial and burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Dr. Michael R. Rouse will be officiating over the services.
