Charles Edward Whitley, Sr., age 75 of Moody passed away on September 22, 2012. He was a graduate from Hewitt Trussville High School in 1954. He served in the USAF in Germany from 1955-1959. He retired from Equifax Services. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Roebuck Plaza for over 50 years. He was an marathon runner until just a few years before his death. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Stella Whitley, brothers, William "Bill" and James "J.D." Whitley, and his first wife, Bettie Vanderford Whitley. He is survived by his wife, Mila Burns Whitley; his children, Mickie Holladay (John) and Charles Whitley, Jr. (Denise); grandchildren, Joshua and Mary Elizabeth Whitley and Jonathan and David Holladay; brothers, Jack Whitley (Helen Sue) and Robert Whitley (Shirley); sisters, Eva Jo Philpot (Jimmy), Lucille Hosmer and Helen Gable; sisters-in-law, Christine and Mary Ann Whitley; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Visitation will be on Monday, September 24, 2012 from 5 to 7PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Jefferson Memorial. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Rev. Jim Auchumuty will be officiating over the services.
