Charles Raymond Strader, known affectionately as Charlie, passed away on September 28, 2024 at the age of 83. Born on December 10, 1940, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Charlie lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family.
Charlie enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from Pemco Aeroplex after many years of dedicated service. He was also a proud Air Force retiree, having served over 30 years in the United States Air Force, active duty and the reserves as a Flight Engineer on C-130s. His military service was a source of pride, exemplifying his commitment to his country.
Beyond his career and military accomplishments, Charlie's proudest achievements were his family. He cherished his beloved wife, Joyce Elaine Strader, who predeceased him, along with his children—daughter Felicia Strader, and sons Jeff (Amy) Strader and James Strader. He was a devoted grandfather to his grandsons, Chandler and Cameron Strader. His legacy also includes the love and memories shared with his sisters, Faye Kennedy, Sandy Daugherty, Phyllis Humphrey, and Cindy Babb, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Charlie was also a proud member of the Scottish Rite Masons and a Shriner, where he made numerous contributions to his community and forged lasting friendships.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Strader and Lillian Lula Strader; brothers, John R. Strader and David Strader; sister, Wanda Hughes; and infant sister, Juanita; brothers-in-law, Odell Kennedy, David Babb, Stuart Humphrey, and Jerry Daugherty; and sister-in-law, Betty Strader.
Charlie will be honored at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Birmingham, Alabama, with visitation on October 3, 2024, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM, followed by a graveside service at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 12:30 PM.
As we reflect on Charlie's life, we remember a man of integrity, warmth, and dedication. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
