ROBERTS, CHARLES LAVON was born November 23, 1950 and died suddenly on July 10th, 2013. He was married on November 18, 2005. Lavon was a devoted husband, son, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with family, traveling, slow dancing and football! His complete and total devotion to his family will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Dunn Roberts, son Chris (Kim) and grandchildren, Parker and Conner of Concord, NC; son and daughter, Gene and Wendy of Florida; sons, Jared Redman (Samantha) and Rob Hudson; mother, Doris Roberts; brother, Dennis (Brenda); sisters, Melinda (Robert), LuAnne (Terry), nieces and nephews and extended family. He is predeceased by his father, Charles Roberts. Lavon proudly enlisted in the US Navy in November, 1969, where he served in many deployments on numerous aircraft carriers. In March, 1988, he earned the rank of Commissioned Officer and retired in August, 1995 with the rank of CW03. Lavon continued working, following his military service. He was currently employed, serving his fellow veterans, at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Visitation for family and friends will be July 15 in the Trussville First Baptist Chapel from 6-8 pm. Service will also be in the Chapel, Tuesday, July 16 at 10 am. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm at Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036, in memory of Lavon Roberts.
