Bernard Jones, 90, of Birmingham AL died Saturday, May 7 at his home after a brief illness. He was a member of McElwain Baptist Church where he served as deacon, a volunteer in the kindergarten and many years in the Loving Touch Ministry to shut-ins. He was a lifetime member of the Montclair Baptist Auxiliary. He was born in Bluefield WV but grew up in Bristol TN. He was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church, Bristol VA. He retired from Eastman Kodak Co. as a service technician in microfilm and copying. He was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy as an aviation machinist in Brazil and flying new amphibious PBYs from the east coast to the west coast. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marie Jones; parents, Roy and Lula Jones; brothers, Harold Jones, James Jones; sisters Evelyn Boyette and Virginia Cauble. He is survived by daughters Brenda Hulgan Cornett (Blaine) of Birmingham and Elizabeth Hostetter (Wayne) of
Guntersville; grandchildren James A. Hulgan (Linda) of Leeds, Karen Kilpatrick (Michael) of Huntsville and Lydia Watkins (Jason) of Lansing MI; four great grandchildren; sister Mary McClellan (Gene) of Clearwater FL; brother Bill Jones of Eastaboga; sisters-in-law Faye Jones, Martha Bernard, and Mary Hargrave and brother-in-law J. B. Combs (Pat) of Bristol TN and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Affinity Hospice for their wonderful care. Services will he held Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, Trussville, with visitation from 12 noon to 2 pm. Rev. Jody Baker, Dr. Joseph Tricquet, and Rev. Wayne Hostetter officiating. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations can be made to Rainbow Omega, Inc., residential facility for adults with developmental disabilities, P.O. Box 740, Eastaboga AL 36260-0740.
