Charles Alexander

Charles E. Alexander, age 88 of Irondale, AL passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church of Irondale. He retired from Alabama Power after 42 years of service as an Electrical Lineman. Charles received numerous meritorious service awards while he was an employee for Alabama Power. In retirement he was a master craftsman and woodworker. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in France during WWII. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Grady Alexander; mother, Cora Ramsey Alexander; one sister, Kate Alexander Keith; one brother, John Alexander. He is survived by his wife, Hildred Josephine "Jo" McWaters Alexander; daughter, Wanda Alexander Banks (Timothy); Grandchildren: Allison R. Banks, R. Abigail Banks Brandenburg (Keith); great-grandson, Charles Edward Brandenburg. A Celebration of Life service will take place at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 13, 2013. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to service. Burial will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Son-in-law, Timothy Banks is officiating. "Charlie" Alexander was everyone's favorite power man for decades in Huffman, Trussville, and Springville: in fair weather or foul, Charlie was the man that "got your power back on." He is loved and missed by family and friends and all who encountered him. A part of "the greatest generation," he was proud to have served his countrymen in war and peace. His legacy is one of quiet dedication to truth, honor, duty and service.
