Casey Nix

Casey R. Nix, Lt. Colonel USMC (Retired) His lifetime warranty expired and the good Lord, whom he so loved called him home on February 1, 2015. Colonel Nix grew up on a farm near Carbon Hill, AL. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines on February 20, 1941 and served on active duty for 30 years, 1 month and 11 days which is all Federal law would allow. He retired on April 1st, 1971. He participated in action at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian during WW II and almost one year in Korea where he was decorated with a Silver Star for extraordinary heroism on November 3, 1950 near the Chosin Reservoir where uncommon valor was a common virtue. He also served 13 months in Vietnam where he was honored by earning the Bronze Star. In 1965, he was selected to lead a detachment of Marines, Navy personnel and Air Force on a secret mission to Morocco. At the end of two years, he was awarded the highest decoration authorized for foreign officials by His Majesty, the late King Hassan II. His decoration also includes the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. In 1957, while stationed in San Francisco, he enrolled at the University of San Francisco and graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 1959. He was a very benevolent Christian and was most happy when worshiping the living God with members of the family of faith at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a long time member. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife, Charlotte, and a stalwart son, Kirk. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 5 at Wilsons Chapel UMC. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services commencing at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest in the Field of Honor on the grounds of the cemetery with full military honors.
