Carson Burgess

Carson N. Burgess, age 90, of Birmingham, went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2011. He retired from General Motors after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Major Burgess served in the US Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1942 - 1971 as a navigator; he was a veteran of the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He was a 1949 graduate of Auburn University and later completed the Master Gardener program at Jeff State. He was an outstanding artist and an avid gardener. Mr. Burgess was dedicated and hard working, as well as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his son, Lary Burgess and wife, Peggy Burgess, as well as by his sisters, Yvonne Jones and Dale Thacker. Mr. Burgess is survived by his children, Michael (Mary) Burgess, Blair Burgess, Scott (Kellye) Burgess, Alan (Heather) Burgess, Amy (Chris) Quick; grandchildren, Molly & Mindy, Brandon, Jennifer & Celia, Libby & Caroline & Sarah. Funeral services for Mr. Burgess will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 2:00PM with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.
