Carrol Payne

Carrol Franklin Payne, known as "Payne" age 84, of Birmingham, AL, went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2011 after a tremendous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Payne was retired after 42.5 years of service at United Airlines. Throughout his exemplary career of over 42 years, he never missed a single day of work and was known as "Mr. United." Payne attended Crestway Baptist Church for 36 years and was a member of the Andrew Class. Payne was a very dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Payne was always there for everyone, no matter what the circumstance. Payne is survived by his loving wife, Mary Florence Glass Payne; daughters, Pamela Payne, Debbie Adams (Bob), and Cindy Blair Speigle; grandchildren, Angie Estock, Brianna Payne, Shelley Nowicki (Todd), Rusty Speigle (Sunni), Daniel & Ryan Terri; and 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will include Payne's former coworkers at United Airlines: Bobby Cox, Travis Glass, Bill Preston, Herb Willbanks, Ken Yeager and Joe Singleton; honorary pallbearers will be the Andrew Class from Crestway Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mr. Payne will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 2:00PM with visitation from 1:00 - 2:00PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Dr. Jimmy Wilson, pastor of Crestway Baptist Church, will officiate the services. The family would like to extend a special thanks to our precious friend Donna Gooch, former manager of Birmingham United Airlines, for sharing the memories throughout Payne's career at United Airlines.
