Carl W. E. Phillips went home to be with his Lord on Jan. 25, 2015. Preceded in death by his son Timothy; parents Dave & Irma Phillips; brother Howard; sisters Barbara Higgins, Helen Cauble. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Loftin Phillips, married for 66 wonderful years; sons Norman R. Phillips (Charlotte), Earl Phillips (Donna); brother Ralph Phillips; sister Carolyn Godwin; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Carl was a veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Underhill, where he received the Purple Heart when wounded. He retired from Sheet Metal Local #48 in 1984. He then worked as a maintenance supervisor for McElwain Baptist Church for 10 years. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. He always enjoyed making things and doing things for others. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at 12pm at McElwain Baptist Church, with Rev. Jody Baker and Rev. Fred Johns officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Jefferson Memorial Trussville is directing.
