Bobby Harris Hill of Birmingham, Alabama, born on December 31,1936, passed away with dignity today. As a beautiful person sang many of his favorite songs, and as we held his hands and hugged him, he took his last breath. In his death, so much like in his life, he controlled the space, the time, and the place. He was ready to go and we were ready to guide him in his passing. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Cole) Hill and the wonderful father of Deborah Hill Tulloss (James), Bobby H. Hill Jr, Donna Hill Johns (Bill), and Douglas A. Hill (Jamie). He had 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Harris Hill and his mother 0lier Marie Hill and by his granddaughter Paige Hill and sister Jewell Beasley. He was a strong individual, in his stature as well as his determination. He was a devoted husband and father who worked many years as a steelworker, never complaining even on days of 100 degrees when his socks and T-shirt would be splattered with the remnants of molten steel or sparks from the furnace. He loved anything automotive and long conversations about cars, trucks, and the latest developments of such. He spent many hours bent over the hood of something, cleaning, shining, repairing, or filling. Another pastime was anything that had to do with outdoors, lawn work, and sometimes gardening. His favorite pastimes were with family. Always the one to joke or find a silly nickname for one of the children, he was the center of most of the laughter. He kept his sense of humor even until his last days while, when asked to smile for a picture, he made a silly face, sneered his nose, and showed a newly open space where a tooth had been. Bobby Harris Hill, may your devotion, kindness, determination, humor, and most of all love, live in our hearts and the heart of generations to come. Until we see you again, we love you. The family will receive friends on Fri. Jan. 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Gardens 1591 Gadsten Highway, Birmingham, AL Funeral to follow at 2:00 PM
