Billy F. Mitchell was born in Blount County, Al on July 20, 1933 and passed way in Birmingham, Al on August 15, 2018. He was a beloved husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He knew that all things work together for good, to them that love God. He attended Tarrant High School and was captain of their football team. He graduated from Auburn University, Class of 1961, and from Cumberland Law School, Class of 1969. He retired from Jefferson State Community College after a fulfilling career as Instructor of Criminal Justice. He enjoyed writing and wrote two mystery novels and many poems. He met the love of his life, Joyce Custred, on a Tarrant City bus in the fall of 1959 and married her in August of 1960. They spent 40 years of happiness and contentment until her passing in February 2001. They are together again. He is also reunited with loved family members who went before him; his parents, his brothers, Chares and W. A., his sisters-in-law, Coleen and Lucille, aunts, uncles, including his beloved Uncle Preston, cousins, including his dear friend, James “Bud” Kile, and his wife’s parents-Alfred and Ellen Custred. He will be greatly missed by many, but especially by his daughter who loves him with all of her heart and who will love and miss her mother and father always. A Celebration of Life service will be held September 17, 2018 at 5:30 pm at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Billy’s life are encouraged to make a contribution to their favorite charity in his name.
