Billy Joe Cox, age 92 of Pinson, AL passed away on January 5, 2016. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Trussville. Billy attended ACIPCO Elementary School, Springdale Junior High and Jefferson County High School. He holds the following degrees in higher education: B.S., Social Studies, Howard College (1955), Birmingham; M.A., Guidance and Counseling (1972), University of AL, Birmingham. His professional work included teaching Industrial Arts in the Montgomery School System. He later served as a State of Alabama Probation/Parole Officer. He retired from the latter. His most heartfelt and consuming dedication has been to serve God as a Baptist Minister. He served as a Bi-vocational pastor of 11 small churches in Alabama while continuing his regular job. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Kate Beulah Cox, wife of 70 years, Gurthel Irene Cox, brother, Curtis Edward Cox and grandson, Joey Cox. He is survived by his children, Janet Stovall, Kathryn Reeder Carr and Rev. Dr. William Cox; brother, Jack Lamar Cox; grandchildren, Jay Reeder, Lisa Reeder Mammola, Lindsey Reeder, Elizabeth Cox, Coleman Cox, and the grandsons who will be pallbearers are Shane Stovall, Craig Stovall, Lee Reeder, Dean Reeder, Josh Cox and Brad Cox; 17 great grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearer will be Coy Cherry. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 8 to 10 AM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Services will begin at 10 in the chapel and the burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Rev. Dr. William Cox and Rev. Bobby Erwin will be officiating over the services.
