Betty Jo Jones Ferguson, 94, passed away on Wednesday May 18, 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born on December 26, 1927 in the small town of Collbran, Alabama in DeKalb County to parents Ed and Lettie Jones. She graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1946 and attended Auburn University. Betty was married to John W. "Jack" Ferguson for 69 years. She was an active member of East Lake United Methodist Church where she also served as a childcare worker for a number of years at the church's daycare center.
Betty is survived by one brother Thomas Jones; three daughters-Patricia Ferguson Wood (Steve); Rebecca Ferguson Anderson; and Jacque Ferguson Cobb; grandchildren-Meredith Wood Jordan (Tyler), John Wood, Jordan Anderson (Lu Qin), Lindsey Cobb (Rachel Lilly), and Matt Anderson; great-grandchildren-James Elliott Jordan; and Harper, Darby, and Shelby Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was loved by many, especially her dear friends at Fair Haven and the special caretakers who considered her as family.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lettie Jones, brother Calvin Jones, sisters Mildred Jones Wade and Helen Jones Norris, and her beloved husband, John W. "Jack" Ferguson.
The service will be held on Saturday May 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at East Lake United Methodist Church in the sanctuary. Visitation with the family and a memorial celebration of Betty's life will be immediately following the service.
Memorial donations can be made in Betty's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Oasis Hospice, Fair Haven Retirement Community, or East Lake United Methodist Church.
