Betty Dryer

DRYER, Betty Dakan Pifer of Nashville, TN died December 18, 2009, at the age of 86. She was born in Smithburg, WV on December 19, 1922, the daughter of Elmer B. Dakan, Sr., and Golda Freeman Dakan. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Elmer B. Dakan, Jr.; husbands C. L. "Sparky" Pifer and Benjamin "Jack" Dryer; and granddaughter, Emily Edmunds. Betty was a graduate of Potomac State College and West Virginia University but an "Auburn Tiger" at heart, having both her husbands and all of her children attend Auburn University. Mrs. Dryer is survived by her children, David (Amy) Pifer of Auburn, AL; Nancy (David) Edmunds of Nashville, TN; Peggy (Steve) McCleskey of Odenville, AL; grandchildren Beth (Reginald) Pifer-Mills; Bryan (Barbara) Edmunds; Laura (Mitch) Johnston; Rachel Lowe; Caitlyn McCleskey; great-grandchildren Katherine and Lydia Edmunds, and Jasper and Oliver Johnston. Betty was a wonderful Christian wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to so many. She maintained friendships all over the country, and if you knew Betty, you always received a birthday card from her. She will be greatly missed. Special thanks are expressed to all of her friends and the staff at McKendree Village for being an extended family to her for the past two and a half years. Visitation, funeral, and graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., funeral at 2:00 p.m., with graveside service immediately following. A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held at McKendree Village in Nashville, TN at a later date in January.
