Born on June 6, 1928, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, a sister, daughter, wife and best friend, Mrs. Betty Jean Barker, passed away peacefully at her home on February 24, 2015, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death in 2005 by her husband of 59 years, Calvin A. Barker. Other family preceding her were her mother Margaret Pearl Langston Rust, father James T. Rust II, brother Kenneth Rust and sister Helen Marie McCain. She is survived by her children Sandra E. McKeever (husband Dr. Daniel McKeever), Dr. Steven A. Barker (wife Dr. Elizabeth Floyd), Kathy A. Barker and Margaret C. Lee (husband Len Lee), her grandchildren Rhonda Steele White, Lauren J. Lee-Lewis, (husband James Lewis) and Lindsay C. Lee, her great-grandchildren Kyndall White, Christian White, Karilyn White, William D. Lewis, Aubrey Lewis and James Lewis, nieces and nephews Patricia McCain Brooks, Debra Rust, Butch McCain and Michael McCain, and numerous great-and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her much loved pup, Mattie. Betty loved her many pets and the birds she brought to her yard by the large feeders she kept constantly filled. The family suggests a donation, in lieu of flowers if you choose, to any organization supporting a better life for the animals of the wild and for the care of our less fortunate four legged companions. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Vitas Hospice, members of the Center Point Fire and Rescue Department, the doctors and nurses of the UAB Palliative Care Unit, the ladies of Healing Touch Caregivers and her life-long friends Jackie Hall and Marty Hackney. Visitation will be held at 9:00-10:00 am, with a Chapel service at 10:00 am followed by graveside services, on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, Alabama, 35235. Dr. Daniel McKeever will be officiating over the services. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
