Bert Payne

Bert Bernard "B.B." Payne, age 72, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Bert graduated from Woodlawn High School and he served in the US Navy Aviation. Bert was Secretary and Worshipful Master, and Lifetime member of Centerpoint Masonic Lodge #872. He was a member of American Legion Post #0171. Bert has been a faithful life member for 45 years, and has served as Secretary of BPOE #79 for 27 years. Bert is a member of Independent Methodist Church of Huffman and will be greatly missed by his loving church family. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Bert Payne, mother Willie Mae Payne Hooper, step-father John C. Hooper, brother Willie Ray Payne, and sister in law Jane Smathers Payne. Services will be Saturday July 11, at 10am in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Reverend W. B. "Pete" Clifford officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7pm Friday. Bert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, loving and caring friend. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marilyn S. Payne, children son Mike Riggins, daughter Catherine Al-Khateeb (Ihab), grandchildren Courtney Bailey (Rodney), Jason Glasscock, Zackary, Jacob, and Laela Al-Khateeb, great-grandchildren Emma Catherine Bailey and Paul Mason Bailey, brother Thomas H. Payne, sister Brenda Vanigan (Jim) sister in law Sandy Payne and a host of nieces, nephews and other family. In lieu of flowers make donations to your favorite medical charity.
