Bernice Lewis

Bernice Lewis, 85, longtime resident of Birmingham, went home to be with Jesus on July 20, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years James Fed Lewis. Bernice is survived by her daughter Frances Lewis McCurdy, son James Fed Lewis Jr."Bubba", daughter in law Darlene Lewis, grandchildren Mitchell McCurdy, Brian McCurdy, Shannon Lewis, and brother James Turner. Bernice graduated from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, GA and worked as a RN for East End Hospital and a nurse for Dr. W.E. Doggett in Tarrant City until retirement. She was an outstanding nurse and so loved by her patients. She taught children's Sunday School at 66 Street Baptist Church and lead both her children to Christ. She was a member there for 40 years until the church closed. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Graveside services will be on Monday, July 23 at 2pm with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12pm until 2pm Monday.
