Benjamin “Benny” Curtis Yates, age 82, of Birmingham, AL. He was a graduate of West End High School. Benny was a veteran of the US Navy after serving six years. He was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church since 1969. He was an Editorial Artist with the Birmingham News for forty-one years. His hobbies included studying Native American History, collecting ancient arrowheads and other artifacts, painting, and model cars dioramas. Benny is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Vivian M. Yates; his children, Benjy Yates (Ellen), Renee Roy (Ronnie), and Tanya West; mother, Ann Gilliland; brother, Gary Yates; five grandchildren, Jacey Brazelton (Ryan), Taylor Yates-Powers (Jon), Bailey Yates, Devin Roy, and Ryan West; two great granddaughters, Marlow and Hazel Brazelton. A celebration of life service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday September 25, 2021. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home one hour prior for visitation. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorial’s adjoining gardens. Pastor Heath Croft, Reverend Angela Martin, and Stephanie Sparks will officiate the service.
