Barry Sheffield

Age 94, of Birmingham passed away on June 10, 2014. Prior to his college career Mr. Sheffield served with the United States Marine Corp.He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and he loved watching "The Vols" play football. Mr. Sheffield also loved Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a devoted member of South Roebuck Baptist Church where he loved serving as a member and life-time deacon. He loved his career as an Electrical Engineer with Alabama Power, and retired after 31 years of service as Manager of Hydro Construction throughout Alabama. After retirement, Mr. Sheffield served St. Vincent's East Auxillary as a dedicated volunteer and a Board Member. He is preceded by his parents, Clay and Katie Sheffield; sisters, Blanche Nettles, Mabel Claire Hitchcock, Agnes Sheffield, Jessie Clay Shaw, Jane Agee; brothers, Clifford, Miller, Selden, Blinn, and Hugh Sheffield. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hilda Sheffield; daughters, Kate (Michael) Hankins and Diane (Cecil) Cole; sisters, Kay Sheffield, and Marilyn Cochran; grandchildren, Amy Phillips (John), Laurel Browning (Matt), Merrie Golden (Ty), Virginia Duncan (Robert), John Hankins, Patricia Griffith (Cale), Brian Cole; great grandchildren, Stephen, Clay and Josh Phillips, Austin Hankins, Olivia Browning, Lilli and Taylor Golden, Abram, Elliot and Owen Griffith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday June 14, 2014 at 12pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Rev. Michael Etheridge will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Roebuck Baptist Church. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
