Garner, Barbara D., 83, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9th. Born in Dayton, OH, she moved to Mobile, AL at an early age. Upon graduation from Murphy High School, Barbara attended Alabama College (now the University of Montevallo), was a long-time member of Huffman United Methodist Church where she devoted much of her time to the UMW supporting the group's mission work through meaningful projects, and former member of the choir. Barbara was a member of the Josiah Brunson Chapter of the DAR, the Huguenot Society of Alabama, and volunteered her time to her community until her health declined. She especially loved her involvement with the Birmingham Museum of Art. Preceded in death by her parents, Clarence (Doris) Ross and Phyllis (Howard) Duffy, her husband of 59 years, Glenn Garner and her son, Obie Garner. Barbara was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her daughter, Patti Garner Staton, and many caring cousins and loving friends. Thanks to the staff of Fairhaven Nursing Home and Lipford Home Care for their loving care. Special thanks to Sandy Grabowski who took time from her busy life to help and lend support. Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East in Trussville. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the choir fund of Huffman United Methodist Church, 711 Gene Reed Road, Birmingham, AL 35235 or the charity of your choice.
