Arthur Banks Chaffin

Arthur Banks Chaffin, 81, passed away on Dec. 1, 2014. Mr. Chaffin was preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Lucille Chaffin and siblings George Carl Chaffin, Jimmie Lou Fievet, and Jerry Chaffin. He graduated from Marion County High School and Jefferson State. He held the rank of sergeant in the US Army and National Guard and retired from AT&T. He attended NorthPark Baptist Church. Mr. Chaffin is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years Mary Cathren Stewart Chaffin, son Michael Chaffin (Mitzi), daughter Susan Goggins (Barry), grandchildren Ashli Polizos (Pete), Brianna Chaffin, Rachel Goggins, Joshua Chaffin, and Leah Goggins, and great-grandsons James and Andrew Polizos. He is also survived by his siblings Howard Chaffin (Nell), Paul Chaffin (Lois), Hattie Mixon (Jack), and Jackie Atkinson (Danny), and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers Dr. John Davis, Netty Robbins, and Pearlie Young. The family requests any donations in Mr. Chaffin's honor be made to Hospice Advantage, which provided compassionate care for him in his final months. His life was symbolized by the words he carried in his wallet: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me-Phil. 4:13." A celebration of his life will take place at Jefferson Memorial Trussville on Thurs., Dec. 4, at 2 PM, Dr. Bill Wilks and Barry Goggins officiating. Visitation will begin at 1. Serving as pallbearers are Carl Chaffin, Joshua Chaffin, Terry Chaffin, Randy Greene, Scott Greene, and Pete Polizos.
