Ann Lee Kirkpatrick Burdick passed away on October 4, 2011, after a short illness. Mrs. Burdick was born January 13, 1923, to James B. and Mary McCoy Kirkpatrick in Haleyville, Alabama. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Harold Burdick, her parents, her brothers, Howard Kirkpatrick, Robert Kirkpatrick, Russell Kirkpatrick, and Herman Kirkpatrick. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Carter Anthony, and son, Lee H. Burdick of Birmingham; granddaughters Rebecca (Davis) Goodson of Birmingham; Laura (Allan) Brown of Fairhope; and Mary Catherine (Tim) Medders of Birmingham. Great grandchildren who will miss "Mama Burdie" include Laura Catherine, Carter, and Hews Goodson and Elle and Burk Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Grace K. Simmons of Trussville, AL and many nieces and nephews. Mr. and Mrs. Burdick were married in 1944 and after WWII made their home in Birmingham. Mrs. Burdick was very proud to have been one of the first administrative assistants for the executives at Exchange Security Bank, the predecessor to the original Regions Financial Corporation. Later, she became a real estate agent and then one of the first female real estate brokers in Birmingham. She and her sister, Grace, formed a family real estate company, Star Realty, and sold hundreds of homes and developed residential subdivisions in Eastern Birmingham. She carried her real estate license up until 2005. Mr. and Mrs. Burdick we longtime members of East Lake Methodist Church where they were members of the Innovators Class and prominent leaders in the Church's Youth Group. Mrs. Burdick was a member of the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. After Mr. Burdick's death in 1989, Mrs. Burdick moved to Vestavia Hills and became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Alter Guild. Recently she became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Burdick was also a member of The Celestine Literary Club, holding many offices. Mrs. Burdick was an avid bridge player for more than 60 years, playing in many contract bridge clubs and city wide as an excellent duplicate bridge player. One of her loves of life was gardening. She was a Master Gardener and loved sharing her plants, flowers and vegetables with all those she knew. She was an energetic and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, and will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to share in her joy and love of life. The family would like to give a special thank you to her dear and faithful friends, especially Robin and Luther Glenn. Not only were they her friends for many years, but they also gave of their time, love, and exceptional care of "Mrs. B" during her illness. A memorial service will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Chapel on Friday, October 7, at 10:00am with family visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be given to Trinity United Methodist Choral Department, Canterbury United Methodist Martha's Garden, McWane Science Center or a charity of your choice.
