Anita D. “Nita” Paduano of Birmingham, AL died on June 23, 2018 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham at the age 90. Nita, as she was known to friends and relatives, was born to Pasquale and Carmen on July 1, 1927 in Pittsfield Massachusetts. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1945. Anita received degrees in education from the University of Montevallo and Athens University. She taught in the Birmingham Public Schools for over 34 years, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, a decorated casualty of WWII, Joseph A. Paduano. Anita is survived by a sister, Elaine P. Johnson and her husband, Ronald, of Greenwood, SC and by her life-long friend and faithful companion, Shirley A. Wortham, of Birmingham. Anita was an avid fitness advocate, and loved aerobic exercise and dance. She had been involved in a number of physical activity classes in the Birmingham area for many years. Her attitude towards exercise was constantly reflected in her daily life, even though she was blind for the last few years of her life. A graveside service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville on Wednesday, June 27th at 2PM. Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
