Alton Lee Giles, age 85, of Mt Olive, passed away December 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents Leeander and Ida Turner Giles, sisters Odie Bell Howard (Alvin) Olene Watson (Howard), nephew Melvin Alton Watson. He was a Private 1st Class in the US Army during WWII serving with the 731st Engineering Depot Company. He was retired from Jim Burke Automotive as a Parts Manager and a custodian at Beechwood Baptist Church, Mt Olive, AL. Alton became a Christian at age 11. He was a member of Beechwood Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was an ordained Deacon with Plainview Baptist Church in Tarrant, AL. He was a shade tree mechanic and gardener. Services will be on Friday Dec 23, at 2pm in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Reverend Percy Byrd will officiate. Visitation will be from 12pm until 2pm Friday. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Maxie Bullard Giles, son Mark A Giles (Kathy), daughter Melody A. Byrom, grandchildren Richard L. Giles, Cammy B. Justice, Angel Burgemeir, sisters in law Jean Wheeler (Marvin), Nell Salmon, and Montez Pettit, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank VA Home Healthcare, caregivers from Home Instead, and the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Birmingham VA Hospital Safe Harbor Unit.
