Alcie "Marie" Tidwell Bates

May 11, 1954 — July 27, 2021

Alcie "Marie" Tidwell Bates was born on May 11, 1954. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, John Tidwell and Allene Thomas (Johnny Thomas). Marie is survived by her sister, Shirley Mize (Al Mize); three children, Schanee Sikora (Terry Sikora), Danyale Nicholas (Jeffery Nichols), K.C. Margaritis (Ashley Margaritis); four grandchildren, SchaScha Holman (Ronnie Holman, Jr.), Lauren Nichols, Lindsey Nichols, Gus Margaritis; two great grandchildren, Shyanne Holman, and Ronnie Holman, III. Marie was born in fort Bragg, NC and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She spent her early adulthood in Childersburg, AL caring for her parents while she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Marie lovingly referred to their home in Childersburg as "The River", It was just that. A small home nestled along the Coosa River. She always considered this to be her home base and it remained forever in her heart. After her parents passing in the late 90's, Marie relocated back to Birmingham. No longer having a passion for nursing, she began a career as a cashier. People of all walks of life were drawn to her and she developed several friendships throughout her 20 years with Wal-Mart. Marie Bates was a humble woman. She found great joy in the simple things in life. A talented seamstress and self-taught pianist; she loved music, books, and spending time with her loved ones. Her humble lifestyle was a direct reflection of her personality. A feisty lady with a heart of gold. She was strong and self-sufficient, yet soft and approachable. Marie will be remembered most for her loving nature, kind spirit, and witty charm. As our cherished mother, sister, and "Mammaw". Services for Marie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, with long-time family friend, Pastor Rick Crowder officiating. Following the service Marie will be laid to rest next to her mother and stepfather in Jefferson Memorial's Garden of Serenity in Trussville, AL. All are welcomed to attend. Family and friends of Marie will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
