Retha Dees

Retha McCaig Dees, 94 of Birmingham passed away on October 8, 2010. Retha was the fourth of eleven children and graduated from Belgreen High School. She was one of the original members of the 77th Street Church of Christ and Edwards Lake Church of Christ, where she attended until her health declined. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bomar Dees; parents, John Mitchell McCaig and Inez Smelser McCaig; Three sisters, Wilma Downs, Lottie Carroll and Jo Whittle; Three brothers, Travis McCaig, Foy Guin McCaig and J.C. McCaig. Retha is survived by her son, John Robert Dees (Jo Ann); daughter, Kay Dees Jones (Jimmy); Five grandchildren, Sheron Duckett (Errol), Kathy Lindsey (Joey), Thea Hubbard (David), Daniel Jones (Meagan) and Paul Jones; Four sisters, Elosie Benson, Jean Nunnley (Fred), Bobbie Vaughan and Patsy Brittain (Felix) and Five great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Martins in the Pines for their exceptional care and concern, especially in the Reed House where she resided for 2 years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 10 beginning at 1:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Chapel services at 2:00 PM with Jimmy Harrington officiating and burial to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
