Master Sgt Donald Larry Martin, 70, of Hanceville, passed away on January 12, 2021. Mr. Martin was a native of Oneonta, AL. He graduated from Appalachian High School in 1968. Immediately after High School he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. After 25 plus years of faithful service, he retired as a highly decorated Master Sgt. Mr. Martin was baptized in the Baptist church and was a devoted born again Christian and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Sue and W.C. Martin and his two brothers, Ricky and Randy Martin, and grandson Campbell Swann Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Nancy Joiner Martin; children, Laura Sultan (Syed) and Scott Martin (Laura); grandchildren, Maya, Asad, Joseph and Emily; his loving siblings, Brenda Hawkins (David), Verbon Martin (Marlene), Elaine Phillips and Karen Crane (Jake); he also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A memorial service for Mr. Martin will be held at Jefferson Memorial Chapel in Trussville on Monday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorial’s adjoining cemetery. Father Patrick Egan and Pastor Randy Reid will both be presiding over the service.
