Janet Elaine Mayo: Obituary

May 25, 1932 - March 24, 2020

Janet Mayo was a truly beautiful person and made us all better people. We were graced by God to call her mom, grandma, great-grandma and Harold T. Mayo was blessed to call her his loving wife for 62 years. She was an elegant southern lady from Minnesota, a successful business woman who always made time for family, a church leader and choir member who enjoyed playing cards with her friends, a regular visitor to the beauty salon even when she was going to spend the weekend putting worms on her grandsons= fishing hooks.  She impacted countless lives teaching kindergarten and Sunday school at McElwain Baptist Church where she also worshiped. She was a woman of faith who taught her family to love God by the life she lived and the love she shared.  All of these qualities have been passed on to her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, so that her faith, moral insight and strength of character will live on for a very long time. She was beloved in the stands of Oak Mountain and Vestavia sports programs and holds the world record for sporting events attended by a grandmother.  She loved her Auburn Tigers and Minnesota Vikings (and any other team that happened to be on at the moment). She passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves behind her family who loved her so much: Gregg (Helen) Mayo, Kyle (Jenna) Mayo, Hudson Mayo, Madison Mayo, Kurt Mayo; Gary (Jama) Mayo, Shane (Trudy) Moore, Katelyn (Don) Anderson, Kurtis Moore, Michael (Tracy) Moore, Brennan Moore, Sawyer Moore; Michelle (David) McKnight, Trent (Ashley) McKnight, Beau McKnight, Brooks McKnight, Baker McKnight, Drew (Demi) McKnight, and Scott (Scottie) McKnight.

She was raised in Isle, Minnesota and was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Evelyn Fladebo and her brother Jim Fladebo.  She is survived by her sister Carol (John Carl) Rosingana and sisterinlaw, Jeanette Fladebo.  She is forever loved by her nieces and  nephews.

Now that coronavirus restrictions have eased, the family will hold a memorial service at Hope Community Church (formerly McElwain Baptist Church) 4445 Montevallo Road, Birmingham, AL 35213 on Friday, May 28th at 1:00 p.m.   The family requests that no additional flowers or donations be given but would love for you to join us in celebrating the life of Janet Mayo!
