James Morgan Chism passed away at his home in Clay on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the age of 83. James is survived by his loving wife, Peggy of 62 years. They were married in Birmingham on January 21, 1951. James is lovingly remembered by his son, Ronald Chism (Vicki); daughter, Gigi Chism Robinson (Lloyd); grandson, Zachary Chism (Natalie) and grandsons, Skylar and Aidan Robinson and many other loving friends and family. James was born in Piper, AL on November 11, 1929. He graduated from West End High School in 1948 and went on to earn a degree in business management from Howard University in 1952. He owned and operated Chism's Styles in Roebuck for 59 years. In addition, James served as an ensign officer in the Navy on the USS Fort Snelling. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA for close to five years and was a proud service member. James enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons. He enjoyed working in his yard, reading, and traveling with his wife, Peggy. James was a kind man that never failed to lend a helping hand. He served as a Deacon and was a member at CenterPoint First Baptist Church for 56 years. James will be remembered for his big heart and witty, sarcastic humor. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services to follow at 11:00 AM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at the Birmingham Humane Society and Mitchell's Place. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
