Gregory Jones

Gregory Joe Jones (66) passed away on December 18th, 2021, in Trussville, AL. Greg was born in Birmingham, AL, on March 23rd, 1955.

Greg grew up in Ensley, the son of James Eagle and Mildred Hammond Jones. Ensley always remained close to his heart as he deeply cherished the lifelong friendships forged in that particular place and time. Following graduation from Jacksonville State University, Greg married the love of his life, Betsy Sawyer Jones. In 45 years of adventure, Greg and Betsy raised two sons- Daniel (Jessica) and Michael (Christy). Following retirement from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Greg settled into a perfect hobby for his nature -- random tinkering. Refinishing antiques, playing guitar, woodworking, home improvement, epic price negotiations with anyone selling him something, and helping his sons filled his days.

Over the past 12 years, he enjoyed the title of Grandad to Annie Wilson (12), Charlie (10), and Sullivan (7). Greg also shared special bonds with his older brother Randy (Cindy) and niece Laura (Ronnie), who were always by his side to provide love and support.

Greg touched the lives of many with his ability to connect at a personal level with all he encountered. Rarely did he meet a stranger, and if he did, he quickly found a way to pull them in with a smile, story, or helping hand. He will be missed.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and beloved brother Don.

Memorial service held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral home in Trussville, AL, on Monday, December 27th at 2 PM, with visitation beginning at 1 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.
