Howell, Glenn Edward 89 years on this earth; 3 children; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a lifelong love of Jesus: What a legacy!! Our beloved Dad and PaPaw passed away on Friday, July 1st at the William F. "Tut" Fann Veterans Home in Huntsville. He was born in Guntersville on December 20, 1921 to Marvin and Ethel Howell. He was a member of Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by his loving wife Cecelia Hendrix Howell, his parents, and two brothers Walter and Robert. His early years were spent in Blount County, and he graduated from what is now J. B. Pennington High School. He then served with the Army Air Corp during World War II in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. Glenn felt the Lord call him into the ministry, and in 1956 moved his family to Birmingham to further his education and his ministry, attending Howard College (Samford). He served as a Baptist minister for many years at various churches throughout Alabama, and also had a long career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1979. He was then able to thoroughly enjoy his family, his cat Lucky, Alabama football, and the Atlanta Braves. He is survived by two daughters: Patricia Peterson (Wyatt - Sonny) of Homewood; Bettye Jane Clark "B.J." (Leo) of Hueytown; and one son Dr. Billy E. Howell (Tammy) of Athens. Grandchildren: Chris Peterson (Danielle) of Hoover; Heather Carmack (Patrick) of Hoover; Tim Peterson (Ashley) of Moody; Kasey Hamilton (Patrick) of Pinson; Clayton Kidd of Birmingham; Leigh Ellyn Byars (Mark) of Tuscaloosa; Lori Handley (Paul) of Huntsville; step-granddaughters: Taylor and Britney Bailey of Athens. Great-grandchildren: Sarah Katherine and Drew Carmack of Hoover; Caleb Hamilton of Pinson; Davis, Riley, Covington, and Linley Byars of Tuscaloosa; Hudson and Harrison Morris and Grace Handley of Huntsville; and many special nieces and nephews. For all their loving tender care for Glenn, the family would like to thank Dr. Gary Boyd and his office staff; Dr. John Farley; Dr. Qi Wan; the staffs of Highlands Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Birmingham, the William F. "Tut" Fann Veterans Home in Huntsville; Countryside Hospice; and North Alabama Hospice.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 9th, at 10:00 A.M. at Jefferson Memorial East in Trussville, with graveside service at 11:00 A.M., Reverend Patrick Hamilton officiating.
