Doris Scott

Edith Ingle Scott, age 79, of Alabaster, passed away April 20, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father, Edgar R. Ingle, and her mother, Madeline Caldwell Franklin. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Harold Winfield Scott, with whom she had a wonderful life. She is also survived by her two daughters Judy Scott Langston (Larry) of Birmingham and Gay Scott Lawson (Bob) of Douglasville, Georgia. She leaves behind three loving grandchildren: Ashlie Lawson Brooks (Andrew), Scott Ryan Langston (Angela), and Melissa "Lisa" Carol Langston, as well as three great-grandchildren: Kenneth Brooks Langston, Lawson Ryann Brooks, and Andrew Thomas Brooks. She is also survived by two sisters, Joe Ruth Roberts and Sue Crane (John), and a host of nieces and nephews. Also left to grieve is her best friend of 66 years, Jean Miller Wood, and many other close friends. She was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Ensley High school. Upon graduation, she was employed by the U.S. Government and later the American Heart Association, Jefferson - Shelby division in fundraising, until she retired to enjoy life with her family. Edith was a faithful member of the Methodist Church all of her life and was a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Center Point for 44 years. She later moved to Alabaster and became a member of First United Methodist Church there. Edith enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies including being an avid reader, working in her award winning yard, traveling, and gardening. She loved to entertain in her home, hosting all family related parties, and doing all of the cooking herself. Edith always said, "You only get to go around once and should make the most of it." And she did. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 22, 2011, from 1p.m. to 3p.m at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, with the service starting at 3p.m. Burial will be held in the Gardens.
