Dewey Esmond Ruffin, Jr., age 82 of Springville, passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2011. He resided in Birmingham over 70 years, and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department in 1986. Mr. Ruffin was an avid Football and Basketball fan of the University of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Esmond Ruffin, Sr., mother, Irene M. Randall, brothers, Jack and Eugene Ruffin, son, Dewey Esmond Ruffin, III. He is survived by his four daughters, Catherine Diane Ruffin of Vestavia Hills, Terri L. Smith of Hoover, Donna Baker of Springville, and Paula Dobbs (Greg) of Clay, AL; grandsons, Robbie Smith, Chris Baker, Josh Baker, and Joseph Ruffin; granddaughter, Tina Ashley and Maranda Swanson and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services to follow at 12:00 PM at Springville City Cemetery.
